Over most of my adult life I had done all kinds of different healings, learned a lot of different techniques, read all the self-help books, meditated and journaled…. Everything chipped away at my unhappiness but nothing seemed to really get into the marrow of it. I know this because I talked all about it in all of my talk/behavioral therapy over the years. Yes, I had tried it all. I just couldn’t shake this deep sense of unhappiness and even dread. Think of PigPen from the Peanuts series: a dark cloud of dirt followed me around, no matter how much I tried to ignore it or shower it away.

About 3 years ago a trusted friend of mine visited and told me about this old/new and controversial, dare I say on the line of illegal, therapy she did that changed her life. Here I am, unhappy in so many parts of my life, overwhelmed with teaching school in a pandemic, paralyzed in bad relationships, etc, etc. and yet with little to no hesitation, I said Yes!

Within a few months I had gathered the money to begin the therapy and even though the process was deeply unsettling, it was also freeing. I was uncovering the sh!t that had weighed me down for what I learned, had been since adolescence.

Why did I make this choice, when at the time everything (finances, availability of time, prohibited/difficult travel during COVID, etc.) was against this?

Well, two years prior to this decision, as our family was driving out of state for a relocation, I had a Life Activation healing from Dr Nick. I knew him through his chiropractic work: he was skilled, steady, had a deep awareness of energy and a wicked sense of humor. For a few hours, I stood…. And sat… for his healing. It took place in his office while he moved and manipulated energy and chanted. My favorite part was him apologizing for his tone-deaf chanting. I didn’t notice (though I’m tone deaf too sooo…).

What I think he did was help me begin moving from a deeper sense of myself, my core being. Mind you, it was buried under many layers of generational lies, false beliefs in myself and a severe lack of self-worth, but I believe the Life Activation was the first energetic spark that made the next few years chaotic as the friction increased between my core being, my true self and the life I was living. How could my Higher Self accept poor behavior from others? How could it accept the kinds of work I was pursuing, with low pay and no respect? How could my Higher Self feel so unloved by everyone, when my Higher Self is Everyone?

Today I am different. Today I feel able and capable. I am ending relationships that no longer serve me; I’m pursuing relationships that do. I am exploring career changes; I’ve come back to painting: I’ve just finished my first novella and am beginning my next non-fiction book. I’m living my life from a place of worthiness, a deep sense of trust in myself. I don’t know if anyone is ever fully activated (maybe on my deathbed?), but the process of living an activated life feels both joyful and grounding at the same time. I think the healing was the birth of the next stage of my life and I’m so grateful.
